Great-horned Owl - 4 takes

This morning for over an hour I couldn't locate any of the owls at Harrison Hills Park. Then when I was about to go to my car, I heard one solitary robin making a call note. Indeed it turned out that she was near this young owl. It was luck that I saw him before I left the park. These young owls are flying to different places, further than before.

Great-horned Owl adult

June 25 - she was rather hard to locate in the dense foliage of the red oak tree.

Friends of Harrison Hills: Interesting plants

Friends of Harrison Hills: Interesting plants: "These interesting plants were along the trail, low to the ground. Anyone know what they are?"

Interesting plants

These interesting plants were along the trail, low to the ground. Anyone know what they are?

Owl - June 20th

Sometimes they are really hard to spot, they hide in the canopy of the trees so well, like this photo..

Owl - June 18th

I was walking up the trail, and he was just sitting there - amazing!

Owls May 22

Another shot from May 22

Spider

When I first saw the owls at the end of April/beginnig of May, there were no spider webs. But now, wow, you walk into them all the time.

Great-horned Owl chick

Well it's hardly a chick anymore. On this day I saw the owls fly from the ground when I entered the woods way off in the distance. They ended up on different trees down the valley at Harrison Hills Park. It was June 1st, 2011. After I went down the valley I heard blue jays, robins, and other adults yelling at this young owl. So I walked up this hill which was farther away than other times I found them. They are flying much better now. I wonder if they are hunting yet? I still do see the adult, though.

Right after I took this photo, the owl flew off back to the valley.

Owls together

One of the last days the young owls were still together at Harrison Hills Park on a limb. Every day after that they would always be apart and very difficult to find. Only if adult song birds are yelling at them did I find them after this.
